SASOEx, Explosive-Atmosphere Equipment Conformity
Equipment used in explosive atmospheres must meet internationally recognised safety requirements to minimise the risk of ignition. RACS reviews your technical file and facilitates conformity assessment under the SASOEx framework, and we tell you exactly what's missing before anything is signed.
Turnaround
Typically 2–6 weeks from a complete technical file, depending on the protection concept and testing requirements.
Validity
Product-type based, valid as long as the equipment design remains unchanged and supporting test evidence is current.
Accredited body
SASO · GSO · ISO 17065
01
What is this?
Equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, wherever flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust may be present, must comply with internationally recognised safety requirements designed to minimise the risk of ignition and ensure safe operation in hazardous environments. A single non-conforming component can compromise an entire installation.
The SASOEx System provides an accepted framework for demonstrating the conformity of equipment and services used in explosive atmospheres across the relevant industrial sectors. It confirms that a product's design, protection concept and construction meet the safety levels required for the hazardous zone in which it will operate.
RACS supports manufacturers in understanding the applicable requirements, reviewing the technical documentation, and facilitating the conformity assessment activities for products intended for use in explosive atmospheres. We read the file the way an inspector would, and we don't issue if it isn't right.
02
Who needs it
Manufacturers of explosion-protected (Ex) electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Suppliers placing hazardous-area equipment on the Saudi market.
Oil & gas, petrochemical and mining operators specifying compliant equipment for hazardous zones.
Importers and brand owners whose products fall under the SASOEx framework.
03
How it works
- 01
Scoping & requirement mapping
We identify the hazardous-area classification, the relevant protection concepts and the SASOEx requirements that apply to your equipment.
- 02
Technical documentation review
Our technical team checks your Ex test reports, type-examination certificates, drawings and protection-concept documentation against the applicable safety requirements.
- 03
Product compliance evaluation
We evaluate whether the product's design and construction meet the safety level required for its intended hazardous zone.
- 04
We complete the file with you
Where something is missing, a test, a certificate, a marking detail, we tell you exactly what we need, with no guesswork.
- 05
Conformity assessment & certificate issuance
Once the file conforms, we complete the conformity assessment and the certificate is issued under the SASOEx framework.
04
Required documents
Don't have these yet? We'll guide you through every one.
Ex test reports and type-examination certificates (e.g. IECEx / equivalent), where applicable.
Technical drawings, protection-concept documentation and the declared safety standard.
Equipment marking and rating details, gas/dust group, temperature class and zone of use.
Manufacturer details and country of origin.

Why RACS
Reviewers who understand Ex protection concepts, hazardous-area classification and the documentation behind them.
We map your existing IECEx or equivalent evidence to SASOEx so you don't repeat testing you've already passed.
A bilingual project manager on your side from the first email, Arabic / English.
We stand behind every certificate we sign. If the file isn't right, we tell you. We don't issue.
